Newcastle born performance artist Rebecca Douglass is occupied with navigating worlds of text, performance and new-media art. She completed her BA at London Contemporary Dance School and deepened her practical experience on the Architetture di Corpi HUMUS Professional Programme, Bologna. She in currently completing her RMa at University of Amsterdam in Artistic Research (2024-25).
From a background in dance performance, she is venturing into versions of herself as Writer, Producer and Researcher. She is a performance journalist for Springback Magazine, and works in Admin and Communications for The Feminist Lecture Program.
She works collaboratively with a practice that extends across disciplines, frequently working with the medium of dance as a vehicle to investigate themes of Surrealism, the existential, the cyberself and Feminism. Her research bleeds through into alternate manifestations within film, text and event production. Her foray into the intersection between dance and digital art is explored in ‘The Opposite of a Black Hole’ (2022) for which she received Arts Council Funding, and ‘erms’ (2020-21), both collaborations with Berlin based artist Tasha Hess-Neustadt.
She has produced several multidisciplinary art events including ‘Dancing Together Festival’ (2023), ‘VERTICAL TERRAIN’ (2022) and ‘erms? extravaganza’ (2021) an online festival.
